The tragedy lies in having no goal to reach. It isn't a calamity to die with dreams unfulfilled, but it is a calamity not to dream. It is not a disaster to be unable to capture your ideal, but it is a disaster to have no ideal to capture. It is not a disgrace not to reach the stars, but it is a disgrace to have no stars to reach for. Not failure, but low aim is a sin." ~ Benjamin E. I needed to reflect and decide how to proceed with my business, it had run it's course for me. With technology changing faster than, frankly, I can keep up with, I wanted to find a format the would stay solid for at least several years. The years I spent as an interior designer gave me a knack for spotting upcoming trends and one that has really resonated with me was late 60's - 70's thing that I have been seeing not only in clothing, accessories, but in the movies as well. This year is the 40th anniversary of Woodstock and although I was to young to have participated I certainly remember all of the hype, the clothes (you can see my favorite pants in 5th grade on my picture page---lime green bell bottoms) and even the smell of incense everywhere. I have noticed also how others can identify with this era...those our age remember it as a time of change, good or bad. I will be incorporating The Peace Chain Calender into my website starting September 1, 2009. The word Peace has a different meaning for everyone...I like to think of it as our ability to look within ourselves and reflect on how we as one person, can make a difference during our short stay on this earth. Peace is about the legacy we leave behind to those around us whether it be family, friends or strangers. I hope you will join me on my quest to share peace, and for the opportunity to share your story on how you or your business strives to share it with others. I will be posting more information on how you can participate in the next 2 weeks.....Peace Out....

Daily Daisy...

I love daisy's. Yes... I get alot of Raz about this, so I'll explain. I've often been told that I have a "flower child" air about me or a "flower child" mentality...(what does that mean?) so I figured I would make the "Daisy" my symbol. I don't know what the heck is wrong with wanting a world that's all sunshine and flowers anyway. As a child of the 60's --I was born in '61--the Daisy represented the universal symbol for beauty, purity, and innocence. Their color also links them to the sun, and thus to enlightenment and illumination. Something I think we all need to work on all embracing each and every day. So you know what I say....get out there and get your daily dose of daisy!!!

Ahhhh....the simple life....

Remember when life was so simple....Yea, me neither....

(My great niece Madylynne)

Rip it.....

Great day today...hanging out with the RIP IT guys at the Buy Michigan Now festival today in Downtown Northville. Megan, a native of Grosse Pointe, is in town from her home base in L.A. where she can be seen starring in Obliged which she also wrote.

Obliged
A One Woman Wedding Show You're Invited Obliged to Attend.
Weddings. Ugh. While the divorce rate escalates, weddings have taken on an absolutely unprecedented importance.
In her one-woman show, Megan Grano exposes the state of weddings by following one Bridezilla's story, starting with her engagement. We meet the bridezilla, her parents, her sad but eager-to-please maid of honor, her terrified florist, her wacky minister and a multitude of other characters all charged with the task of making this the biggest, and (therefore) bestest day of her life! It was early dusk in my quaint suburban neighborhood, the street usually busy with dog walkers and children, was strangely empty and quiet. I imagined families inside their homes watching the early news, cleaning up dinner dishes or just getting ready for their next days hectic schedule.

My home sits at the mouth of a fork in the road, one street converging into two paths, each three streets with different names, very confusing. I had recently moved into the neighborhood after an extremely tough decision to let go of the beloved home that I had single handedly raised my three daughters in.

Decisions are often tough...I know this...but we all have to make them...this was just one of many I've had to make in my life...and it certainly would not be the last. As I sat on my porch...talking to my friend...looking ahead...I heard the strangest noise. I looked to the left, and running down the single street was a big beautiful doe (yes as in deer) the noise from her hoofs echoed on the pavement. I was shocked, I had to shake my brain loose for a minute and remember that I was not sitting in a cabin up North but in a neighborhood surrounded on each side by very busy streets. I jumped up from my chair, my friend still sitting, and shouted the only thing I could think of, "OH MY GOD...IT'S A DEER!"

The doe heard me, stopping at the fork and glanced in my direction for a split second. She turned back looked ahead at the two roads, and without hesitation started running down the one to the left. I sat back down, stunned. Where did she come from? Where was she going? And why did she pick that road?

People started pouring out of their homes, standing on porches, and on the sidewalk, gathering in the street pointing in her direction. I sat for a few moments listening as the echos of her hooves began to fade. I heard cars slamming on brakes, took a deep breathe, but knew in my heart that she made it safely across the busy road to the golf course on the other side. I looked at my philosophical friend who asked me in a hushed voice "Do you think that was a sign?" I didn't respond but thought to myself "Yes, that was most definitely a sign."

Lisa Marie and The Mowhawk Man

Well the tides have turned on MetroChickradio.com. I have been enticed to the dark side. What does this mean? After many years of promoting only good, and fluffy commentary I will now provide controversy as well. I'm excited to have been approached to do a show that showcases the difference between the sexes...or conservative vs. chaos...

I will never give up my conservative views. I will continue to fight for our rights as women and for the underdog, and I hope you will join me in this quest. I do know that in our chaotic world we must poke fun at ourselves if we are ever to bring about change in this world, so please join me on Lisa Marie and The Mowhawk Man Show or Conservative vs. Chaos. I must say I did have much hesitation about doing this new show but now realize I owe it to those who tune in to to have an arena, or a safe haven to express their thoughts and feelings in a fun and informal format.

The Mowhawk Man and I provide two different views on life, love, politics, sex you name it...but ultimately in the end it is about learning to agree to disagree for the greater good. So join us each week --listen, comment or not, but have a view...that's your right.

To hear the show go to www.themowhawkmanlives.com

The Nonprofit Buzz w/Diana Kern

This month on The Nonprofit Buzz we will discuss a topic that has garnered a lot of discussion, especially in the Detroit area and that is mergers of nonprofits. I would make funny faces and think that he was absolutely nuts..pun intended. So when I met Marcie Gracey of Maile Distributors and she convinced me to try Uncle Bud's peanuts --eating the shell and all- I have to admit I thought I was being secretly filmed or punked. But I did try them...lo and behold to my amazement I actually liked them...to my further amazement...I actually loved them (bring on the cameras). Now mind you... Uncle Bud's peanuts differ a bit from your traditional "Ballpark" variety in that they are a Valencia peanut...a smaller and sweeter variety. They are deep-fried in a soybean oil, seasoned with sea salt, and come in different flavors, Salt, Cajun, Garlic and Hot. I am soooo addicted to the hot ones...yummy. I keep them in my car so that while driving I can grab a handful...this helps keep me away from the tempting fast food joints. If you want more information on this product...click on and listen to Marcie's interview, also make sure to get out to your local grocery store and buy a bag...guess what...no Carbs and lots of fiber...what a bonus. If you have trouble finding them just go to Marcie's website at http://www.mailedistributors.com/ and order right from there. - Tell her Lisa sent you!!!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://metrochick.blogspot.com/2009/04/eat-peanutshell-and-all-yes-you-can.html' title='Eat a peanut...shell and all...????? Those of you like me who are numerically challenged know exactly what I'm talking about. I had the pleasure of sitting down with Math Wiz Gary Davis to talk about his website www.videomathteacher.com and what I found out was that his love of math and his love of helping others understand math is why he decided to create his amazing and successful website. (My first math teacher was not so enthusiastic) I think we all have the ability to become good with numbers but our first impressions and the pace that we are able to learn them at play an important role in our attitude about Math. When in 4th grade I began to lose my interest in all things math...I just wanted to draw...how nice it would have been to sit at a computer, click on, and get back on track at my own pace. Gary's site works with individuals at every level. Make sure to click on Gary's interview and check out his site www.videomathteacher.com and pass it along to anyone who struggles with numbers or who just wants to get back into the numbers game.

The Nonprofit Buzz w/ Diana Kern

This month on The Nonprofit Buzz we will be talking about Partnering For Success. Also on the show will be Dan Varner, CEO of Think Detroit PAL who will share his experience participating in a merger in 2005 and what that has meant to the organization. I am so excited to talk about such a wonderful company - http://www.ecostoreusa.com/ this week on Biz Chat Snippets. Just wanted to make sure everyone knows that on show day (today-all Fridays) you can hear the current Biz Chat Snippet by clicking on the radio to your right. You will see a screen pop up and then you'll just hit on the yellow play button, you can hear Lyne's show all day today and her archive will be posted by next week. By posting the show through my radio portal Live365.com for the whole day I make sure that the show is available to their 4 million subscribers as well.

What can I say about Lyne, well first of all she is such a dynamo...so much energy...so incredibly passionate about her role at ecostoreusa.com. Lyne and I chatted about her transition to this position and about how the birth of her daughter (adorable Kasey in the pic above) helped her want to know more about the ingredients in the products she was using. I was thrilled when Lyne showed up with some products for me to try, first the plant based laundry liquid- ultra concentrate, and also the plant based dishwash liquid also ultra concentrate. The first thing I did when I got home was to try the Laundry Liquid (I'm a laundry snob). For those of you who have read my past blogs you know I hate to shop (quality vs. quantity is my motto)---so my clothes I treat really nice. Well the Laundry Liquid smelled so good I wasn't sure if I wanted to take a bath in it or wash my clothes in it. My clothes came out smelling yummy and sooooo clean...I loved it!! I moved on to the Dishwash liquid -- that too had such a nice clean citrus smell, I do have a dishwasher but with only two of us at home I hand wash quite a bit. After looking at the size of the bottle, the amount of liquid I used to get good suds, I would have to say that for less than 6 bucks, this bottle of Dishwash liquid will last me at least 6 months....what a BONUS!!!

Trust me...you don't have to take my word for it...get over to Meijers, get the products, ecoSTOREusa -Make No Nasty Chemicals a part of your life and feel good that you've not only made a difference in your household, but in our environment as well. ----Click on the radio to hear our interview all day today. Peace out...LM

Nine Phrases Women Use

Sent to me by my friend Marcie...so funny!!!

(1) Fine: This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and you need to shut up.
(2) Five Minutes: If she is getting dressed, this means a half an hour.Five minutes is only five minutes if you have just been given five more minutes to watch the game before helping around the house.
(3) Nothing:This is the calm before the storm. This means something, and you should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with nothing usually end in fine.
(4) Go Ahead: This is a dare, not permission. Don't Do It!
(5) Loud Sigh: This is actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement often misunderstood by men. A loud sigh means she thinks you are an idiot and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you about nothing. (Refer back to # 3 for the meaning of nothing.)
(6) That's Okay: This is one of the most dangerous statements a women can make to a man. That's okay means she wants to think long and hard before deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake.
(7) Thanks: A woman is thanking you, do not question, or faint.Just say you're welcome. (I want to add in a clause here - This is true, unless she says 'Thanks a lot' - that is PURE sarcasm and she is not thanking you at all. DO NOT say 'you're welcome'. That will bring on a 'whatever').
(8) Whatever: Is a woman's way of saying *&^%$ YOU!
(9) Don't worry about it, I got it: Another dangerous statement, meaning this is something that a woman has told a man to do several times, but is now doing it herself. This will later result in a man asking 'What's wrong?'For the woman's response refer to # 3.
* Send this to the men you know, to warn them about arguments they can avoid if they remember the terminology.
* Send this to all the women you know to give them a good laugh, cause they know it's true!!!

The Nonprofit Buzz w/Diana Kern

Please make sure to tell everyone you know who is involved in the Nonprofit community to tune in for today's show. I will do anything in my power to avoid the mall, it gives me the willies. I think it's because as a consummate busy body it just seems to be a such waste of time, I've always envied those that could actually go and "window shop" or just hang out. The bummer is that my anti-mall shopping obsession has spilled over into food shopping as well. Something I used to really enjoy, shopping for food, preparing meals for my family, coming up with new and healthy dishes has become such a chore. I've made a million meals over the years...maybe I'm just experiencing food-prep burnout. My interview with Business owner Michelle Kobernick jolted me back into reality that serving fresh cooked meals for our family or even just ourselves is a supreme gesture of love. The food we choose to nurture our bodies and our souls, should be eaten and prepared with thought, enjoyment and care. But what if it's just not where your at right now. What if there are job constraints, what if being on the run is keeping you from making wise food choices. And how about exhaustion...isn't it easier just to grab a salad at the drive-through? No...not in the long run. Listen to today's show and check out Michelle's website www.gourmeteverydaydelivery.com to find out what you can do to nurture your body, and once again enjoy tasty food without losing your time or your sanity.

Women with Moxie!!

Make sure to click on the radio today for the looping of our fantastic show...Life's a Trip. I was living in San Diego, everyday I would drive to work along the coast and look at the ocean and the waves. I would watch the people riding their bikes and couples walking hand in hand, vacationers enjoying their vacation. After work I would walk to the ocean, watch the sun set, crunch my toes in the sand and think...wow...I am so lucky, I am living in paradise. Three years went by, then 4 then 5. One day as I got home from work I realized I didn't notice the ocean any longer, I didn't pay attention to what others where doing and certainly hadn't taken the time in months to go watch a sunset...I just couldn't see it any longer. Reminder: Live in the present, enjoy life...be thankful for today.

Our 2009 Nonprofit Partner

CREATING AWARENESS...
I have had the incredible opportunity over the last 3 years to work with and promote many nonprofit organizations with MetroChickradio.com. I have met amazing and dedicated individuals who through the course of their own experiences or through a specific career choice have made the decision to "give back" to the community and their cause. The extremely hard part for me was choosing who I would promote (I received hundreds of requests) all had such touching stories and missions. Because of my need to harness my workload and to help create a larger opportunity for the awareness of the nonprofit, I have made the decision to partner with one organization per year. This year I have selected the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. My little sister Kristina was diagnosed with MS in May 2007 after a struggle with continuous double vision. After this devastating discovery, I began to hear of this person, then that person being diagnosed. The more I kept hearing about people being diagnosed the more I realized how little I knew about this disease. Throughout the course of the next year I will talk to experts, and persons struggling with MS, in an attempt to help others understand, raise awareness and maybe even some money for their cause. National MS Society Michigan

Great Interview!!

Make sure to tune in for a great interview I did with Financial Advisers Tammy Pizzimenti and Ruth Clayman from MetLife. Research conducted by psychology professor Kelly G. Lambert, PhD, at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Va., suggests that the hands-on effort and completion of physical tasks that were once required to provide life's necessities (referred to as "effort-based rewards") are actually key components of happiness.

In a recent study, Lambert tracked two groups of rats: The first had to dig through piles of cage bedding to find their food, simulating the gathering of a harvest. The "trust fund" rats of the second group were simply given their food - no work necessary. The working rats came out of the experiment healthier, showing higher levels of persistence and boldness than their coddled counterparts - characteristics that are vital to overcoming difficulties in life, Lambert suggests. The trust-fund rats, meanwhile, became fat and depressed.

Completing any kind of manual task - whether it's cooking a meal, shoveling a sidewalk, or tackling a new ascent at the climbing wall - triggers the efforts-driven-rewards circuit in human minds, too. Working together, this network of key motor, emotional and rewards centers seems to play an important role in creating a sense of happiness and well-being over time.

(taken from an article in Experience Life Magazine December 2008)

It's a BeeHive

I had to comment on the amount of e-mails I received regarding the question I posed on my weekly newsletter (What is Karen's hairstyle - she is the one standing- pic on the left) Keep in mind that the first correct answer I receive with these questions wins a prize-winner was Bobbie Tallon. Anyway great answers, and some hilarious trips down memory lane that many shared. One in particular had me rolling--I want to share it here. It was sent by E-Mail pal and Southern Sis Gina- from Atlanta GA. We have never met but connected when she found my website and utilized one of the Gals on the members page. They always say there is someone out there who could be your twin and although I'm not sure if we look alike our backgrounds are eerily similar - way to many to mention. Here is her e-mail - hope it gives you a chuckle as well.

From Gina: Isn't that a boufant? Have no idea how to spell it...but that's what we always referred to them as.
To funny! I can remember my mom and Aunt going to their once a week standing appointment with Raymond...they would come home teased and highlighted and the hairspray...holy cow...they are the sole reasons for the hole in the ozone layer. Once, when my mom fell asleep on the couch...my brother actually placed one of his little "action figures " in the "wave" of my moms hair and from that day forth we referred to her "do" as the Hawaii 5- 0.
Thanks for the walk down memory lane Lisa...too funny! I am loving your new site and the fact that it is a reflection on Alice. Now when are you going to get that big ol' girl on the road so we can do some kind of girls gone wild airstream style?!?
Hugs,
Your Southern Sis!
Gina

The Diva Success Network"With Passion~Comes Possibility"

http://www.thedivasuccessnetwork.com/

www.radiosandysprings.com/showpages/divanetwork.php

678-231-1586

" Put On Your Big Girl Shoes and Heel Thyself, Diva"

MetroChickradio.com Partners

It's a big bad world we live in. As women, especially if you are a single woman, it's sometimes hard to know who to trust. I'm not saying we live in a world with a bunch of crooks, or that there are creepers who are ready to take advantage of us at every turn, but let's face it, some people just have their own agenda. Unfortunately this can often times get in the way of what is right for the client or consumer. I am comfortable saying that the businesses that come to me to do interviews have nothing but the best of intentions at heart. The common thread I see with my partners is the true warmth, graciousness and desire to make a difference in the life of the person they are helping. I guess my thought would be...who would actually come on MetroChick radio, be interviewed, have it broadcast to the world without having a strong sense of integrity knowing what this station is all about. I'm thrilled to say I'm not only comfortable to promote the businesses I work with, I go out of my way to utilize the services that they offer. That being said, if you are looking for products or services you can rest assured that the businesses that partner with MetroChick radio will do everything to make sure that your experience with them is nothing but the best. I was thinking about this as I interviewed Lana Lembersky this week. Lana contacted me to be part of MetroChick radio and as we sat and chatted I realized that Lana, through her own difficult experience of looking for clothing on the internet, created several websites to help women navigate though their Internet buying experience with more ease. She created a win win situation. Make sure to check out her sites (the beauty of this is that you can shop whenever, where ever you like---perfect in subzero Michigan weather!) --Just don't order the lite green jacket on the petite site....LOL

http://www.forbusinesswomen.com/ http://www.womenplusdresses.com/ http://www.petitewomenclothes.com/

The Bliss Network

Blissful...how many people can actually say they have a blissful life? This is where my friend Teri comes in. I've known Teri since high school. While in high school Teri was always one of those very happy go lucky people with a bubbly personality that everyone felt comfortable around. As I was a cheerleader in high school I thought that everyone had the ability to slap on a fake smile and win the trophy like we were taught to do, and then when the show was over we could go back to being who we "really" were. So naturally I figured Teri was like the rest of us and wore the "Blissful" feel good and smile mask. Teri and I lost touch after High school and it was during a Memorial Day parade a few years ago that I spotted her and her bubbly happy self (she was in the parade) and we reconnected. I can't think of a better person to have a website titled The Bliss Network or to have a Book called Blisstory. Make sure you tune in and listen to Teri's interview and why she is so darn happy all the time!!! Looping will start Friday morning January 9th. (Just click on the radio in the upper right corner).

My Transition Site

Just an FYI that this is just my transitional site until my new site goes up. I'm very excited to be going into the new Year with a bit of a new look and feel. I wanted MetroChick radio to be fun and entertaining, bring great music and information in a unique format. I like the new Metro Retro look and feel it really fits in with the whole idea of "Alice the Airstream" and my love of Retro. The statement "this ain't your mama's radio station" simply means that-- do you think our mothers would have ever imagined listening to the radio from a computer??? Heck, I would not have imagined it not to mention creating it, so enjoy, pass it along and as soon as the new site goes up the blog will feed right into it. I laugh when I think that with each year I expect it to get a little easier. It won't because I am a crafter. My kids crack up at this because I start to get the itch around Thanksgiving. One year it was potato stamps on boxes (see the pic). I advanced to music boxes...jewelry...decoupage...ornaments (little mice holding wreaths, teddy bears...christmasy stuff). And there was also the year I worked at the Design Center...I was able to take home the discarded fabric. Needless to say everyone got a cool new stocking and all gifts got wrapped in fabric that Christmas. Yes I still have the itch and I'm still busy scratching it!!!

Welcome to my Blog

I'm excited to debut my new blog.
